Vajdahunyad Castle
Vajdahunyad Castle is one of City Park’s best-known and most spectacular architectural complexes, built for the 1896 Millennium Exhibition based on the designs of Ignác Alpár, originally from temporary materials. Due to its popularity, it was later rebuilt in stone and brick, reaching its present form in 1908.
The castle is unique in that it evokes multiple periods of Hungarian architecture: Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque styles all appear within a single complex. One of its most distinctive features is the Gothic façade and tower inspired by Hunyad Castle in Transylvania.
Today the building is home to the Museum of Hungarian Agriculture, while the surrounding park and nearby lake remain among Budapest’s most popular walking areas.
