Andrássy Avenue

Andrássy Avenue is one of Budapest’s most important boulevards, forming a grand axis between Deák Ferenc Square and Heroes’ Square. Built in the late 19th century, it remains a defining element of the city’s urban structure and historic representation.

Part of the UNESCO World Heritage site, the avenue stands as a remarkable example of historic city planning. Its palaces, embassies and cultural institutions reflect the ambition and urban vision of Hungary during the Austro-Hungarian era.

Halfway along the boulevard, the axis is punctuated by Oktogon, one of the city’s most characteristic crossroads. The Hungarian State Opera House and the former Ballet Institute further reinforce Andrássy Avenue as one of Budapest’s main cultural arteries.

Andrássy Avenue is not only a historical monument, but a living urban space. Today it gathers Budapest’s most elegant luxury boutiques, while its festive winter lights continue to enhance its representative grandeur.
