Budapest Zoo
The Budapest Zoo and Botanical Garden is Hungary’s oldest zoo and one of the largest collections in the country. It opened in 1866 in City Park and has since remained an important part of Budapest’s cultural and recreational life.
The site is known not only for its animal collection, but also for its architectural heritage. The Art Nouveau and historicist pavilions built in the early 20th century—including iconic animal houses and gateways—create a distinctive, almost storybook setting.
The zoo is where nature and the city meet: at once a family destination and a major attraction, where green surroundings and built structures are closely interwoven.
