Feneketlen Lake
Feneketlen Lake is one of the most beloved places to relax in Budapest’s 11th district, set within the urban space framed by Villányi Road and Kosztolányi Dezső Square. The lake and its park offer a calm counterpoint to the surrounding traffic.
Its name dates back to 19th-century clay mining, when the deep pit left behind after extraction was long believed to be “bottomless” ("feneketlen"). In reality, the lake is only moderately deep, and today it has become a carefully maintained body of water gradually transformed into a park and community space.
Runners and dog walkers share the paths along the shore, while families picnic on the grass. The surface of the water often reflects the towers of St. Imre Church and the surrounding buildings, including the mass of St. Margaret High School nearby.
