Fisherman's Bastion
Fisherman’s Bastion is one of the most iconic landmarks of the Buda Castle District, located next to Matthias Church. With its towers and terraces rising above the Danube, it is a defining element of the Buda skyline and offers sweeping views over Pest. Parliament, St. Stephen’s Basilica, the bridges of the Danube, and the city center are all clearly visible from here.
The Neo-Romanesque structure was designed by Frigyes Schulek at the turn of the 20th century on the site of medieval castle walls. It takes its name from the fishermen’s guild once active here. Though no longer a fortress, it functions as a carefully designed panoramic terrace system. Its seven towers refer to the conquering Hungarian tribes, while the stairs and arcades create a layered spatial experience.
