Király Street

Király Street is one of Budapest’s oldest and most important streets, running from Deák Ferenc Square to Lövölde Square along the border of Terézváros and Erzsébetváros. Dating back to the 18th century, it evolved from a road leading beyond the former city walls into one of Pest’s key commercial streets, lined with shops, workshops and cafés.

Its character is still largely defined by 19th-century eclectic and historicist apartment buildings. Since the 2000s, inner Erzsébetváros has become a central part of Budapest’s nightlife district, where bars, restaurants, design shops and cultural spaces cluster around Gozsdu Courtyard.

Király Street remains one of Budapest’s most diverse retail areas. From specialized shops – such as thermometer or lampshade stores – to massage salons and budget eateries, a wide range of businesses coexist, creating a dense and characterful urban atmosphere.
