Metro Line M4

Metro Line M4 is Budapest’s newest metro line, whose first service started in 2014 between Kelenföld railway station and Keleti railway station. The project was not only a transport development, but also one of the most significant achievements of contemporary Hungarian architecture.

Although each station was designed with its own identity, together they create a unified visual world: exposed concrete structures, monumental spaces, and diagonal supporting elements form characterful, almost sculptural interiors. Underground infrastructure here becomes a visual and architectural experience. The line is served by modern, automated driverless metro trains, which further emphasize its technological innovation.

M4 is both a major urban transport axis and one of the best-known works of contemporary Hungarian architecture, which has also received international architectural awards and professional recognition.
