Várkert Bazár

Standing at the foot of Buda Castle on the Danube embankment, Várkert Bazár was built to the designs of Miklós Ybl in the late 19th century. The Neo-Renaissance complex, completed in 1883, originally functioned as the representative closure of the royal palace gardens.

The architectural ensemble of arcaded pavilions, terraces, and ornamental gardens stood in a ruined state for a long period before undergoing a full restoration in the early 2010s.

Today it functions as a cultural and community space, hosting exhibitions, concerts, and events, while its upper terraces offer beautiful views over the Danube and the panorama of Pest.
